Preventative Care

Healthcare systems have it backwards, treating a problem after it exists. Doesn’t it make more sense to prevent the problem to begin with? Join Dr. Ratliff as your partner in your healthcare journey for living your healthiest life and preventing disease.

  • Annual Physical: Schedule a yearly visit with Dr. Ratliff to make sure you are doing well and possibly detect any early development of problems. Dr. Ratliff can order mammograms, colonoscopy, vaccines, and other preventative services if appropriate.

  • Pre-Operative Clearance & Health Optimization: Your surgeon will likely want you to have an exam by your primary care doctor before undergoing a procedure. Consider also working to optimize your health before surgery. Nutrition, sleep, exercise, and smoking status affect surgical success.

  • Cancer Prevention & Recurrence Prevention: We can discuss your risk for cancer and how to prevent it. Reviewing environmental exposures, learning about chemicals in personal care products, and avoiding toxins in foods can help prevent cancer and recurrence as well. Stress reduction is also a factor to address here.

  • Travel Vaccine Recommendations: Whether you are traveling locally or internationally, we can discuss what vaccines may be needed before your trip. We can review your itinerary alongside CDC guidelines for prevention.

  • Disease Prevention: Based on your family health history, Dr. Ratliff will work with you to create a plan for prevention that is sustainable for you.

Women’s Health

  • Contraception Management: Dr. Ratliff offers a safe space to discuss this sensitive topic. If you are not ready to be a parent and abstinence is unlikely, learn your options for pregnancy prevention.

  • Pre-Conception Optimization: When you are ready to conceive, consider discussing with Dr. Ratliff 2-3 months prior to conception so that you can begin the pregnancy in the healthiest state possible and prevent birth defects for your baby.

  • Pregnancy Health Optimization: Dr. Ratliff can assist you with nutrition, exercise, sleep and other health aspects as an adjunct to your routine prenatal care from your OB-GYN.

  • Integrative Women’s Health: Join Dr. Ratliff to talk about what makes you unique as a woman. She is open to discuss pain with sex, low libido, premenstrual syndrome, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms, and more.

Acute Care

  • Same-Day Access to Dr. Ratliff: Depending on your concern, Dr. Ratliff may be able to handle it via phone call, text, or email—something that many other physicians are unable to do because they only get paid when they see you in the office.

  • Sick Appointments: If a visit is appropriate, Dr. Ratliff can schedule you for telemedicine or in-person visit. COVID and other respiratory evaluations will be managed primarily via telemedicine.

Metabolic Health

Dr. Ratliff can work with you to manage your metabolic health in order to prevent worsening and possibly even reverse disease.

  • Diabetes: This includes quarterly or biannual visits to review labs, medications, and diet and exercise regimens. Dr. Ratliff will check your feet for any signs of diabetic neuropathy or ulceration and make sure you are up to date on diabetic eye exams. She may suggest a continuous glucose monitor so you can see what foods affect your glucose level in real time.

  • Hypertension: This includes BP checks, medication review, diet and exercise review. Dr. Ratliff will also review mind-body practices to help as well.

  • Cholesterol: This includes determining if medication is the right choice for you. Understanding your risk is key. Dr. Ratliff may do more extensive labs and imaging to further elucidate your risk for heart disease to aid in the decision for medication. We will address risk factors like family history and smoking history as well.

  • Thyroid: We can evaluate labs and adjust medication dosing as needed if symptoms are present, focusing on treating the person rather than the lab results.

  • Weight: Dr. Ratliff will be an accountability partner in your weight loss journey who can offer evidence-based treatment options while also discussing the real risks of some of the weight loss medications out there. We can look at your history surrounding your weight.

Respiratory Health

  • Asthma & Allergies: We can help minimize suffering during asthma flares and allergy season. Shortness of breath is scary, and avoidance of triggers and flare prevention is key. We’ll work to maximize control of your symptoms so you can get on and live your life.

  • Integrative Long COVID-19 Consult (PASC): Dr. Ratliff herself has struggled with long-covid symptoms, and has also managed patients with this. Talk with her about pacing yourself and creating a plan to a new normal so you can improve your quality of life.

  • Environmental Health Consult: Let’s review what exposures you have had in the past and investigate current exposures you may not be aware of. We can prevent cancers and disease by avoiding many toxicants in our world.

Behavioral Health

  • Behavioral Health Care and Management Strategies: If you struggle with depression, anxiety, stress, or other mental health issues, Dr. Ratliff provides a safe space to listen. We can develop a rescue plan for when things turn bad quickly as well as a maintenance plan to prevent spiraling out of control. Dr. Ratliff encourages a combination of mind-body practices, sleep, nutrition, exercise, social support, and, if needed, medication.

  • MInd-Body Medicine Techniques: The mind and body are intricately connected. We can learn to control our breathing, pulse, and blood pressure with our minds. We can calm our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) and engage our parasympathetic nervous system to rest and digest. For some, meditation is too still of a practice, so learn about other options like Tai-chi and Qi-gong.

  • Smoking and Alcohol Cessation: Let’s talk about ways to work towards being substance free, whether that is with hypnosis, AA, counseling, supplements, or just stopping cold turkey.

Integrative Consults

Dr. Ratliff has extensive training in integrative medicine through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She can work with you to develop a customized plan to get you on the right track to health. Let her be a partner in your health journey.
